Develop new markets and improve operations by building and strengthening partnerships

By engaging with social causes in a variety of ways, your company can learn about new geographies, cultures, markets, and product applications.

cause這里是名詞,意思是“事業(yè)”(朗文詞典解釋:aim, principle or movement that is strongly defended or supported,例如a good cause 意思是崇高的事業(yè))

In addition, it can enable partnerships that protect market share and increase distribution. New insights and partnerships can be created by leveraging the diverse assets found within your company, like its products, services, capital, networks, and expertise.

  Distribution

Leverage 這里是動(dòng)詞,意思是“使用、利用”(朗文詞典解釋:to spread or use resources (=money, skills, buildings etc that an organization has available) , ideas etc again in several different ways or in different parts of a company, system etc)

  Diverse

Here are just a couple examples of how corporations are using impact initiatives that also benefit their bottom line:

Employees volunteering their skills with organizations in strategic locations can help your company gain local insights. As an example, volunteers in Microsoft’s MySkills4Afrika program support startups and educational institutions. In doing so, they make an impact while better understanding some of their growing market segments.

  Corporation

1.最重要的事:used to tell someone what the most important part of a situation is, or what the most important thing to consider is

2.公司營(yíng)收或損失:the profit or the amount of money that a business makes or loses

3.商業(yè)活動(dòng)中能夠接受的最少的錢:the least amount of money that you are willing to accept in a business deal

In doing so, in so doing 和 by doing so 的區(qū)別

That is to say, never lose the thread. Only in so doing can you read accurately and efficiently.

In doing so, he had undoubtedly learnt something about himself.

In doing so, she gave a little sigh.

In so doing, they only demonstrated their lack of good faith.

  通過(guò)以上幾個(gè)句子的分析,我們看到實(shí)際上in doing so 和 in so doing是沒(méi)有區(qū)別的。

By doing so的意思和by so doing 也是一樣的,等同于in doing so

Donations of products and/or services can increase the capacity of channel partners to improve supply chains. As an example, Starbucks, Green Mountain Coffee, and other major coffee organizations partnered with Mercy Corps to develop solutions to support coffee farmers during the challenging “thin months”.

Corporate giving can help develop markets and build loyalty with channel partners. A good example of this is how GE partnered with Ashoka to support women entrepreneurs in the Middle East.

  Channel partners

  Partner with 與…合作

  Challenging

  Thin months

  It is a moral imperative

Nobody is better positioned to create long-term, sustainable change than businesses. According to Michael E. Porter and Mark R. Kramer in the Harvard Business Review, “When a well-run business applies its vast resources, expertise, and management talent to problems that it understands and in which it has a stake, it can have a greater impact on social good than any other institution or philanthropic organization.”

  Philanthropic

The recent earthquake tragedy in Nepal is a great example of how corporations can procure and donate capital, products, and services almost more efficiently than any other entity, even when there is no bottom-line benefit. As a few examples of this, Facebook and Google launched tools to help locate missing people, Airbnb was able to quickly provide accommodations, many others, including Amazon, Apple, and Uber promoted donation widgets on their home pages. Some, like Facebook, even matched donations. This Corporate Aid Tracker for Nepal highlights a couple other examples including (but not limited to) free texting and calling through AT&T and T-Mobile, healthcare products and grants by Abbott, clean water systems from FedEx, and free money transfers through Western Union. Beyond products, companies have already combined to donate over 16.1 Million to Nepal – more than any single government or organization (United Nations pledged 15 Million and United States pledged 10 Million ref: CNN). Because of their size, reach, and efficiency, corporations are able to rapidly mobilize information and resources AND get it to the right people at the right time.

Indeed, some of the world’s top CEOs like Howard Schultz (Starbucks) and Paul Polman (Unilever) agree. In a recent HBR Blog Post, Howard shared

“It is no longer enough to serve customers, employees, and shareholders. It is our responsibility — our duty — to serve the communities where we do business by helping to improve, for example, the quality of citizens’ education, employment, health care, safety, and overall daily life, plus future prospects.”

  Customer 顧客

  Shareholder

  Prospect

As well as making money, businesses should also have social responsibilities. Do you agree or disagree? (20150725)

  1.As well as在這里表示“除了…還…”,相當(dāng)于apart from,因此本題的重點(diǎn)在后面“businesses should also have social responsibilities”,因此這部分是論述的重點(diǎn),全文“同意與否”的核心點(diǎn)是這個(gè)句子。

2.題目問(wèn)的是do you agree or disagree而不是to what extent do you agree or disagree,因此在謀篇布局的時(shí)候,可以全篇寫(xiě)一邊倒。

Consumers are willing to pay more for products and services provided by companies that are committed to positive social and environmental impact.

People want to work at companies with world-positive missions.

Employees perform better when they engage in socially responsible activities and reporting

Social good programs, like skills-based volunteering programs, are proven to effectively build leaders more economically than university programs, training, and conferences.

Develop new markets and improve operations by building and strengthening partnerships

  It is moral imperative.

  P1: agree

P2: a moral imperative - companies can exercise their own function with their corresponding products to address relevant social problems - the example of Napal - this exerts greater impact than any other organisation

P3: good for businesses - allows companies to be more reliable - promote sales - because customers tend to buy from those who are beneficial to the society.

  P4: agree

With the fierce competition, it is far from enough for businesses to serve customers, employees, and shareholders. Some people argue that, apart from seeking profits, tradesmen should also shoulder social duties. To my part, there is validity in this argument, and thus should be backed up.

In the first place, corporations have the capacities to effectively and efficiently address social concerns. In the face of social issues, different commercial organizations are able to provide the citizens with their own products and services, exercising their own functions, to tackle them. A typical illustration of this is the catastrophic earthquake in Nepal a number of years ago, when business giants gave hands with their own products, such as tools to locating miss habitants offered by Facebook and Google and quick accommodations by Airbnb. When a well-run firm applies its vast resources, expertise and talents to obstacles within its reach, it has a more profound impact on social good than other philanthropic institutions.

In addition, it is in the interest of businessmen to be engaged in socially positive activities. Social good programs, including skills-based volunteering programs, leaves the consumers an impression of the companies' being reliable. This, to a large extent, promotes sales. According to a recent study, a dominant number of consumers have an inclination to pay more for products and services provided by companies that are committed to positive social and environmental impact.

To sum up, being socially responsible is beneficial to the whole society and the businesses themselves, owing largely to their own capability of doing so and the moral and profitable outcomes it produces to the public and themselves respectively.

  Validity 合理性

  Back up 支持

  Address the concerns 解決問(wèn)題

  In the face of 面對(duì)

In the interest of sb.

  Inclination
